The Terang and Mortlake Vet Clinics would like to make our cattle clients aware that we are able to provide a disbudding service on calves from 2-10 weeks of age.
Disbudding is the removal of horn producing cells (horn buds) in calves before they have attached to the underlying frontal bone of the skull. The procedure is carried out by Vets, using a combination of sedation , local anaesthesia and pain relief to facilitate the process. This reduces stress on calves and lead s to better welfare and growth rates in calves compared to those calves which are dehorned with out the use of these products.
The Terang Vet Cinic will provide certification for milk quality programs requiring disbudding in this way.
